Crime Prevention emphasizes actions which may be taken by citizens before a crime is committed. This reduces the chances for criminals to victimize you, your family, and your neighbors. The goal is to reduce criminal opportunity through various programs. Please check the list below regarding a few things you can do to reduce crime.

Security Inspections

A security inspection is the primary tool used in crime prevention to recognize, appraise and anticipate loss potential. It is often defined as the backbone of our local crime prevention efforts. In practice, it combines the security experience, training and education of the Cedar Hill P.A.C.T. officers and focuses it on a single element, the analysis of a physical facility. It is the tool by which a homeowner or business owner is informed of the specific areas of vulnerability and the steps that can be taken to reduce or minimize that vulnerability.

Crime Prevention (P.A.C.T.) - Police And Community Team

The Police And Community Team (P.A.C.T.) is comprised of one lieutenant, one sergeant, one corporal and four officers who engage in crime prevention and problem-solving activities with the community.  All members of our P.A.C.T. unit have gone through extensive training and are State Certified Crime Prevention Specialists.

Each member of the P.A.C.T. unit is assigned to a patrol beat and works as the department liaison within their assigned section. They work closely with other divisions within the police department and other City departments to address crime concerns. Further, these officers work with Crime Watch groups, community groups and citizens to assist in providing information, crime prevention techniques and solutions to resolve community crime concerns. In Cedar Hill, we understand the value of people and relationships which is why we offer a number of programs designed to create opportunities for community engagement to build lasting relationships and help keep our community safe.

Utilize our online Action Request Form to report issues and concerns.

Residential Security Check

Did you know that the Cedar Hill Police Department offers a free service that checks on your home while you are away?

Go to the application (PDF), fill it out, and drop it off at the Police Department, located at 285 Uptown Boulevard, Building 200, before you leave town. This free service of the CHPD will provide inspections of the accessible exterior of your home while you are away, minimum of three days, maximum of 30 days-excluding the day of departure and day of return.

The Residential Security Check program is available to Cedar Hill residents who turn in the completed application form at the police station.

Neighborhood Watch

Neighborhood Watch program is one of the most effective and least costly ways to prevent crime and reduce fear. Neighborhood Watch fights the isolation that crime both creates and feeds upon. It forges bonds among area residents, helps prevent burglaries and robberies, and improves relations between police and the communities they serve.

If you are interested in Neighborhood Watch, please email Cpl. Donny Brackenridge at donald.brackenridge@cedarhilltx.com or call: (972) 291-5181 ext. 2106.

Citizens On Patrol (COP)
